Trevor’s GTA V DLC Was Scrapped
Rockstar Games Dan Houser has finally explained what happened to the long-rumored Trevor’s GTA V DLC that would have expanded Trevor Philips’ chaotic story.

For years, fans speculated about this cancelled story expansion. Many believed it would explore Trevor’s wild backstory and extend his chaotic journey beyond the events of GTA V.
In a recent interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Houser revealed that the Trevor GTA V DLC was already halfway through production before being shelved.
“It never quite came together, and it was never finished. It was about half done when it got abandoned,” Houser said.
Unfortunately, Rockstar shifted its focus to the growing success of GTA Online, which quickly became a global phenomenon. Continuous updates, multiplayer heists, and new events took priority — leaving single-player DLC on the cutting room floor.
This decision mirrors the studio’s later approach with Red Dead Redemption 2, which also skipped story expansions despite strong fan demand. It reflects a clear strategy shift toward live-service models and long-term content monetization.
Fans argue that Trevor, one of the most unpredictable and beloved characters in Rockstar’s history, deserved another chance to shine. Many hoped for a campaign-style DLC exploring his violent humor and loyalty conflicts.
Even though it’s been over a decade since GTA V launched, interest in single-player DLC remains high. With GTA VI now officially confirmed, Rockstar’s creative priorities are back under the spotlight.
